An Arms-Open Leap into the New Year!

2013 is just around the corner! We’ve survived torrential rain, at least a couple of near-apocalyptic instances, overzealous family members around the Christmas dinner table and a slew of events that will shake their fists as we sail past into the new year. Well done!

Now here at Annexe HQ we are really quite excited about the next year. We’ve got a multitude of projects, events and books to give you that we are so proud to be working on. To celebrate what promises to be a whirlwind year, we’re kicking of with a bit of a spoken word party! On Friday 18th January we will fill the space that formerly held the BBC London offices with performances from some incredible poets, writers and musicians. Expect poetry with live soundtrack, animated stories that are illustrated as they are performed, short films, the whole nine yards.

 Two weeks ago, we had a little spoken word night. If you came along, you’ll remember just how arresting our performers were. If not, we’ve decided to let you in on a little of what went on. Thank you everyone who came along to our event on Thursday. We had an absolute blast and we hope you did too. If you couldn’t make it, we’ve got a few tidbits to show you what went on. Starting with a few photographs of the night.

It’s here! – Annexe & EKO present… Et Al. (This Thursday)

The time has come! This Thursday, we open our doors for an amazing night of spoken word, theatre and music. If you haven’t already put the date in your diary, it starts at 7pm. We’ll have all manner of fun and games to keep you entertained before the acts start. And once they do… Well, we’ve got a few treats in store for you.

You might have noticed an extra name on the bill. That’s right! We’ve brought an extra special guest along for the show, the brilliant Benjamin Dodson. He crafts a particularly special kind of sound. Mixing bubbly synth sounds with sweeping harmonies, Benjamin will keep us grooving into the night.

Alongside that we’ll have a zine stand, and baked goodies so bring a little pocket-money. Plus, there’ll be the Annexe classic, the bookswap. Bring along a book that you might want to share. Something you’ve read and think someone else out there might like. Who knows? You might find your next great read amongst the books on show.

One Pun Too Many

With the release of the Et Al Podcast, we thought it only fair to give you some extra bits and bobs too. It’s Christmas after all. So, at the Annexe event, we ran a little competition in which the audience had to fashion some first-class puns. The topic was books cross with bands. We weren’t surprised to see that the Annexe audience is comprised of a lot of witty and erudite folk. We had so many brilliant responses it was hard to choose between them, but we decided on our top four:

Since that night the entries have resurfaced every so often and without fail every soul in Annexe HQ falls into fits of laughter. We realised it was cruel to keep all this mirth to ourselves so, in no particular order, after the jump are ALL the book/band puns from Annexe Presents…Et Al.

Et Al: The Podcast

Not too long ago, we held our inaugural literary event. It was a roaring success (even if I do say so myself) and we certainly had a few giggles. If you were there, well done. If you weren’t, shame on you, but not to worry. We’ve got something that will make it feel like you were almost there.

As a Christmas treat, we’re giving you the Annexe presents… Et Al PODCAST! Crafted by the talented Mr Nick Taylor, the podcast revisits some of the highlights from the night and has a ton of extra features. There are interviews with all the performers and a lovely soundtrack too.

Each performer is highlighted as a chapter so you can jump around if you like, though we think it works best in its entirety. Enjoy!

Annexe Presents… Et Al.

Well, colour us excited!
The inaugural literary event from Annexe Magazine is all planned, prepared and is fast approaching. Everyone in Annexe HQ is positively beaming with the news of our incredible line-up. In the lab, the team is crafting the finest in bunting, biscuits and puns. It’s set to be a firecracker of an evening.
